Building visualizations in Spotfire Desktop

Below are the steps involved for building visualizations in Spotfire Desktop,

Step 1 : Install Spotfire Desktop.
Step 2 : Launch Spotfire Desktop.
Step 3 : Loading data into Spotfire Desktop.
Step 4 : Building visualizations .

Step 1 : In my case, I have installed Spotfire Desktop 6.5.

Step 2 : Launch Spotfire Desktop

To Launch Spotfire Desktop,

Select All Program -->TIBCO-->TIBCO Spotfire

After launching Spotfire,

Step 3 :  Loading data into Spotfire Desktop

we can load data in a number of ways :

• Copy and paste data using the clipboard.
• Open Simple Text files,Microsoft Excel files, or SAS files.
• Import from a Database.

In my case I have used to load data from Ms-Excel,

Select Add Data Connection-->Add-->from the drop down list select File,

Browse the Excel which contains data to load into Spotfire Desktop,

Import Screen will appear,you have to select the worksheet to import (my case I have only one sheet), based on the column available in worksheet, Spotfire will identify the datatypes, if you need to change you can change,

Click ok,

Excel data is added into Spotfire Desktop, and if you want to add any calculated column,select the transformation in the drop down list and click add,(my case i am going to add salary+comm = Total Salary).

Calculated New column window will appear, define the expression and click ok,

New Column added into Data Tables, Click ok

Step 4 : Building visualizations 

Visualization Page will appear, you have to select column

Select Column in the List for both X and Y Axis, For multiple Column Click + sign and add column,

In my case, I have selected Salary and Total Salary column in Y axis, Dept id in X axis,
New visualization has been created, to change the side by bars, right click on the visualization, select side by side bars,

Note :As of now remove filter, i will post different blog adding filter to the existing report,

Visualization got changed into side by side bars, to Save this visualization, File --> Save
